Since his conducting debut in 1993 Danish conductor PETER ETTRUP LARSEN (b. 1965) has performed in several European countries. He has recorded cd’s with among others The Danish Radio Sinfonietta, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and The Tivoli Promenade Orchestra.
Apart from his conducting education from The Sibelius Academy in Finland (1993), Peter Ettrup Larsen has a MA-degree in musicology and rhetoric from the University of Copenhagen (1994) and a diploma in clarinetplaying from The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen (1991). In 1994 he was awarded the prestigious Gade-prize.
Paralleltracking his conducting career Peter Ettrup Larsen has also taught at The University of Copenhagen (1994-2000) and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (2000-2002). In the fall semester of 2002 he was invited to the USA where he acted as Slane scholar of residence at Bradley University in Peoria, IL.
Peter Ettrup Larsen has edited several publications for Edition Wilhelm Hansen, contributed to The Brøndum’s Encyclopedia and contributed by writing 137 references on conductors and symphony orchestras for the new 2003-edition of the Danish music-encyclopedia: Gads Musikleksikon. Recently Peter Ettrup Larsen published a major scientific report about the student’s developing of musical communicational skills during a stay at a Danish Folk High School.
Since 1998 Peter Ettrup Larsen has been on the board of The Danish Conductors Association. In this capacity he attented the 2001 CG congress in Houston, where the focus was on securing future audiences. This inspired him to compose and publish the critically acclaimed Peter´s Songbook – 25 new fun songs for children, which will be recorded in an American version early 2005. The CG-inspiration also let to the development of the highly successful one-man-children-show “Meet the conductor”.
The Danish Conductors Association was founded in 1937 and counts today about 150 members, all working professionally with music in varying styles and genres from symphonic conducting over choral conducting, to military music and jazz.
