Ms. Shelley Livingston

Member Bio Shelley Livingston, Conductor of the Duke University String School Youth Symphony Orchestra, is recognized for her many contributions to the arts, both locally and internationally. As guest artist at the Laredo Institute in Cochabamba, Bolivia, she conducted master classes for advanced violin students. While there, her students performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Cochabamba in La Paz. Her talents and expertise as conductor, ensemble coach, private violin teacher and performer have guided students to top honors in public, private and charter schools in Texas, North Carolina and Connecticut. Ms. Livingston attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the University of North Texas, where she received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Performance. As Director of Orchestras at Orange Charter School, she provided opportunities for performance and partnership in the world of string education for families and communities who have discovered the joy and beauty of music. Ms. Livingston also performs with the Durham Symphony, serving as principal second violin and she has been a violin teacher in a program for minority and disadvantaged students called “Young Strings of the Triangle”, sponsored by the North Carolina Symphony.

Steven Lloyd-Gonzalez

Member Bio Steven Lloyd-Gonzalez holds a Masters Degree in Conducting from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, having studied there with Andrew Mogrelia. He also received invaluable guidance from Sir Simon Rattle at this time. A period of further study followed, with renowned teachers, Christopher Adey, Frank Shipway and Kenneth Kiesler in the U.S.A. Lloyd-Gonzalez also assisted the Conductor Vernon Handley for a period, during his tenure with the English Symphony Orchestra. An association with the music of Sir Malcolm Arnold led to the opportunity of working with the composer on a concert devoted to his music in Muscat, Oman. Lloyd-Gonzalez returned to the Royal Opera House Muscat recently to conduct a rare performance of Arnold’s Organ Concerto. Other collaborations include work with composers Steve Reich, Alex Heffes, Thomas Simaku, Sven Helbig and Richard Rodney-Bennett. Frank Heckel’s ‘Skyfall Concerto’ recently received it’s first performance in Offenbach, Germany with Lloyd-Gonzalez as Conductor and Wayne Marshall as Organ soloist. In 2005 Lloyd-Gonzalez was appointed Chief Conductor of Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Egypt. The youngest Conductor ever to be appointed to that role at the time. It was during his tenure in Cairo that he was asked by Daniel Barenboim and Mariam Said to assist in securing auditions for Egyptian musicians who wished to perform with the West Eastern Divan Orchestra. Further appointments have included; Chief Conductor, Kur Sinfonie Bad Nauheim, Principal Guest Conductor, Capitol Symphony Orchestra Offenbach and Associate Conductor of Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt, Germany. Steven has appeared with some of the UK’s leading orchestras, including: London Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Ensemble, and BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Other International engagements have included appearances in the U.S.A. China, France, Germany, Kuwait, UAE, Egypt and Oman. Steven is the recipient of a number of prizes, including; The Salveson Baton, The Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicans and The Michael Beech Conducting Award. He is also an Honorary Member of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He is the featured Conductor on a number of film scores, including French director Philippe De Broca’s final film, ‘Vipère Au Poing’, and also a number of game soundtracks, including; ‘Headhunter’ by Richard Jacques for Sega, and ‘Xenosaga’ by Yasunori Mitsuda for Sony.

Mr. Keith Lockhart

Member Bio Having celebrated his twentieth anniversary as Boston Pops Conductor in 2015, Keith Lockhart is the second longest-tenured conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra since its founding in 1885. He took over as conductor in 1995, following John Williams’s thirteen-year tenure from 1980 to 1993; Mr. Williams succeeded the legendary Arthur Fiedler, who as at the helm of the orchestra for nearly fifty years. During his tenure, Keith Lockhart has significantly expanded Pops programming, focused on national annual touring, and participated in major media events. He has solidified the orchestra’s place in the fabric of the New England community and has led the Boston Pops in countless performance situations. The list of more than 250 guest artists with whom he has collaborated is a virtual “who’s who” of performers and pop culture icons.

Member Bio Benjamin Loeb Benjamin Loeb is an accomplished soloist, accompanist, conductor, arranger, educator, arts administrator and entrepreneur. His piano performances have been heralded by the Boston Globe: “[his] vigorous, cogent playing signaled the kind of equally weighted partnership, plus competition, plus mutual quest, etc. that [makes] this music live.” He has soloed with the Boston Pops Orchestra at the invitation and under the direction of former New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert. He has also collaborated as concerto soloist with many other conductors including JoAnn Falletta, Carl St. Clair, and Rossen Milanov. His widely varied projects range from concerts of Beethoven and Bruckner Symphonies to recordings with Yo-Yo Ma of Italian 16th century madrigalists to tours with popular rock musicians to world premieres of the most cutting-edge avant-garde contemporary music. Recently has performed the complete Brahms Violin Sonatas with Chicago Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Robert Chen and the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas with violinist Jennifer Frautschi. At the invitation of United States Department of State, Loeb toured Argentina and Uruguay as an Artistic Ambassador, performing recitals of the music of Scott Joplin and giving master classes and workshops with youth orchestras and young musicians. He has recorded for Naxos (both as soloist and collaborative pianist), CBC and the DSCLabel. He holds a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory in Conducting, as a student of Gustav Meier, a Master in Music from the Curtis Institute and a Doctor in Musical Arts from the Juilliard School in Accompanying and a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University. He recently served as Executive Director of Congregation Beth Israel in Scottsdale and has also served as Executive Director of the Quad City (Iowa) Symphony Orchestra from 2013 through 2017, as Executive Director of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, and as Music Director of the 2011 New Hampshire Music Festival. As Associate Conductor of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Loeb founded and served as both Executive and Music Director of the El Paso Symphony Youth. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the International Conducting Workshop and Festival, now in its nineteenth year. He lives in Plano, TX with his wife, Quyen, his 15-year-old daughter, Anna Sofia Uni, his 12-year-old, Lulu Ladybug, and 10-year-old son Ryan “Taco”. He continues occasionally to concertize worldwide as pianist, conductor, educator and arts advocate. Loeb’s far-ranging interests do not limit him to music; he has directed plays, cooked gourmet meals for 65, tutored over 500 people in test preparation for the Princeton Review, and played and enjoyed almost every sport. Moreover (or most important), he is a lifetime Dallas Cowboys fan.

Member Bio Thomas Loewenheim is Head of Strings, Professor of Cello, and Conductor of the University Orchestra at California State University Fresno. He is also Music Director of the Youth Orchestras of Fresno and Artistic Director of the FOOSA Festival/Fresno Summer Orchestra Academy. Dr. Loewenheim enjoys an international career, combining cello performance, conducting, and teaching. He has toured North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East, performing as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Dr. Loewenheim earned a doctorate in cello performance from the renowned Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he studied with Janos Starker and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, and was mentored in conducting by David Effron. He received a master’s degree from the University of Michigan under Erling Blöndal Bengtsson and a bachelor’s degree from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance in Jerusalem. He also took part in master classes with Yo-Yo Ma, Mischa Maisky, Antonio Meneses, Arto Noras, Aldo Parisot, William Pleeth, and Menahem Pressler, among others. He plays a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume cello, made in 1848.

Andres Lopera

Member Bio Dynamic, imaginative, and deeply committed to his community, conductor Andres Lopera enters his debut season as Music Director of Indiana's Richmond Symphony Orchestra. A trailblazing Latin American conductor in the US, Lopera has led prestigious orchestras across the Americas for over a decade. Currently in his fifth season as Associate Conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestras, Lopera has conducted performances with orchestras such as the Colorado Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Toledo Symphony, New World Symphony, and Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, among others. Lopera has also appeared in a number of summer festivals, including the inaugural year of New England Conservatory’s Summer Orchestra Institute in 2019. Other engagements include the Cabrillo Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra and the internationally renowned Orchestra of the Americas. He has also collaborated with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, covering concerts led by Gustavo Dudamel and Carlos Miguel Prieto. Internationally, Lopera has conducted the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, EAFIT Symphony Orchestra, and Colombia's National Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has fostered musical connections across Central and South America, collaborating with both professional and youth orchestras in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Honduras. In June 2012, Lopera was appointed Music Director of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in Portland, OR, where he oversaw a program with more than 450 students, 12 ensembles, and 10 conducting staff. In recognition of his contributions to Portland, he received the Portland Monthly Award, Rising Star Award, and the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber Bravo Award. Additional honors include the Orgullo Colombiano Award and Egresados Que Inspiran from EAFIT University. Born in Don Matias Antioquia, nestled in Colombia's Andes Mountains, Lopera, the only musician in a family of seven, found his passion in music's universal language. In his leisure time he enjoys hiking in nature and spending time with family.

Renée Anne Louprette

Member Bio Renée Anne Louprette is director of the Bard College Baroque Ensemble. She received her Master’s degree in conducting from Bard College in 2019 and was then appointed Assistant Professor of Music and College Organist at Bard. She has been Organ Area Coordinator at Mason Gross School of the Arts and University Organist at Rutgers University since 2013. She concurrently maintains an international career as organ recitalist, collaborative keyboardist, conductor, and teacher. She has previously held teaching positions at the Manhattan School of Music, The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, and the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University. In New York City, Louprette has served as Associate Director of Music at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, Associate Director of Music and the Arts at Trinity Wall Street, Organist and Associate Director at the Unitarian Church of All Souls, and Director of Music at the Church of Notre Dame. As organ recitalist, Louprette recently made her debuts at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, and in collaboration with the American Brass Quintet at Church of the Ascension in New York. She has released two solo recordings of music of J. S. Bach and 20th-century French organ masterworks to critical acclaim.
