Sarah Pearson has conducted the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra, the New Symphony Orchestra of Bulgaria, the Bohuslave Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra of Czech Repulic, the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, the Gwinnett Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the Gwinnett Youth Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, The Cleveland Pops, the Lee University Symphony Orchestra, the Lee University Wind Ensemble, the Lee University Masterworks Series and Classic Christmas, the Honors Orchestra for Chattanooga, and the Tabernacle Symphony of Praise. Member Bio French-American conductor, born in Beirut, into a musical family. George Pehlivanian’s path in music began with piano and violin lessons at the age of three and six respectively. In 1975, Pehilvanian and his family emigrated to Los Angeles and went on to study conducting with Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel and Ferdinand Leitner. He also spent two summers at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena where he was awarded the Diploma di Merito. In 1991 Mr. Pehlivanian was crowned unanimously by the International Jury, with the Grand Prize of the Besançon International Conducting Competition. Thus becoming the first American to have received this honor in the history of one of the most respected competitions in the world.

Member Bio Francesco Pellegrino was born in Savigliano (CN, Italy) on 29th July 1987. He graduated in Composition and Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatory of Turin in 2013, he achieved a Master in Conducting in 2016, at the same conservatory. His teachers were M° Mario Lamberto for Orchestral Conducting; Alessandro Ruo Rui for Composition. Moreover, he graduated in Translation (Russian and English) at the University of Turin (Italy) in 2012. Member Bio Dr. Mark Perlman has been music director and conductor of the Willamette Falls Symphony Orchestra (in Oregon City) since 2001, and is also the associate conductor for the Hillsboro Symphony (Oregon). He has conducted other orchestras in the Portland area as well as in Arizona, California, Nevada, Ohio, and Washington, and internationally conducted orchestras in Germany, Russia, Bulgaria, and Romania. He studied conducting at the University of Arizona with Dr. Leonard Pearlman, and other conducting teachers include Jorma Panula, Petr Gribanov, Leonid Kochmar, Sian Edwards, Diane Wittry, Adrian Gnam, Oleg Proskurnya, Alexander Polishchuck, Markus Lehtinen, Murry Sidlin, Daniel Lewis, Don Thulean, and John Farrer. Dr. Perlman won honorable mention in the 2011 International Conducting Workshop and Competition in Macon, Georgia. In 2011, he was also a finalist for the American prize in both orchestral conducting (community orchestra) and programming. He was featured on Romanian television for his September 11, 2006 concert in honor of victims of terrorism. Among other things, Dr. Perlman is known for innovative programming, including concerts with narration, concerts with instruments not frequently featured for solos, performances of various dance forms using dancers, using costumes in a very memorable Halloween concert, and designing and conducting very successful comedy-in-music concerts. When people say Mark Perlman is “a philosopher of the baton,” he can back it up – he has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Arizona and is a professor of philosophy at Western Oregon University. He is the author of several scholarly papers and books, and his current research includes work in aesthetics of music, now focused on a philosophical investigation into the nature of orchestral conducting. Mark Perlman, ConductorMark Perlman has a passion for the traditional symphonic repertoire, from Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner and Mahler, and is now halfway through a multi-season Beethoven Symphony cycle with the Tualatin Valley Symphony. He also conducted a 1997 recording for CD of the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Scottsdale Symphony and pianist Nicholas Carey. Yet he has also pursued new music, conducted world premieres of Joseph Harchanko’s Chamber Symphony: Oregon Landscapes, Kevin Elmore’s The Mischief of the Fae, and Michael Landers’ tone poem On the Morning of 9-11 (2005) and comic piece The Clown Car. In the 2003-04 season he conducted the Oregon premiere of Daniel Bukvich’s orchestra and choral work From the Journals of Lewis and Clark as part of Oregon’s celebration of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial. Dan Perttu

Member Bio Dr. Daniel Perttu works as a Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Westminster College, where he also took his turn as the Chair of the School of Music from July, 2014, through June, 2022. Although getting performances of new music by orchestras is challenging for living composers, his music has been performed by many professional orchestras on three continents. In addition, his chamber music has been performed on four continents and in over 40 of the United States. His international credits include performances by the Niš Symphony Orchestra and Subotica Philharmonic (Serbia), the Falcón Symphony Orchestra (Venezuela), and recordings by the London Symphony Orchestra and the Moravian Philharmonic (Czech Republic). In the states, his recent orchestral credits include the Springfield Symphony (Ohio), Wheeling Symphony (WV), Butler Philharmonic (Ohio), Sierra Vista Symphony (Arizona), Ohio Valley Symphony (Ohio), Flagstaff Symphony (Arizona), Canton Symphony Orchestra (Ohio), Greenville Symphony (PA), Muscatine Symphony (Iowa), Perrysburg Symphony (Ohio), Space Coast Symphony Orchestra (Florida), Firelands Symphony (Ohio), Fox Valley Symphony (Wisconsin), Acadiana Symphony (Louisiana), Oklahoma Composers' Orchestra, Greenville Symphony (Pennsylvania), Orchestra Omaha, and Lakeland Civic Orchestra (Ohio). Performances slated for 2023-24 include the Butler County Symphony (PA), Rapides Symphony (LA), Grand Junction Symphony (CO), Perrysburg Symphony (Ohio), Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Butler Philharmonic, and Western Piedmont Symphony (NC). Performances of his music have also occurred in arts festivals, new music festivals and concerts, solo recitals at the international, national, and regional levels, Society of Composers conferences, and College Music Society conferences. Dr. Perttu's music can be found on the Navona records label, in which his music has appeared on five albums. Besides his CD releases, Dr. Perttu’s music has been published by Editions Musica Ferrum (Athens, Greece), BRS Music, Inc., as well as Dorn Publications. Dr. Perttu has also received various commissions and awards from throughout the country. He completed his doctorate at The Ohio State University, master's degrees at Kent State University, and bachelor's degree at Williams College, graduating magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Andrew Peters

Member Bio Organist and conductor Andrew Peters serves as organist and director of music at Second Presbyterian Church in St. Louis. At the church he directs the choral groups and handbell choir, plays the church’s restored 1965 Schantz organ, and oversees the church’s Couts Music Series as artistic director. He plays with the St. Louis Symphony as ensemble organist and is assistant conductor of the Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis. A recipient of numerous awards, Peters is known for both his organ recitals and accompaniments to silent movies, especially those starring Harold Lloyd. Past performances include appearances at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta, Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, St. Olaf College, DePauw University, and more. Peters holds degrees from St. Olaf College and the Cleveland Institute of Music. His congregational hymn settings for brass and organ are published by MorningStar Music. He and his family live in the city of St. Louis.

Member Bio Greg Peterson believes that when you couple an ensemble in full flight with an appreciative audience, there is no place more exciting to be than on the conductor’s podium! ​ Greg began initial studies in conducting through the Australian Wind Orchestra, and the Jerry Novak Conducting Summer School. Further studies were completed at the Defence Force School of Music with Dr. Barry Bignell as part of the Band Officer Course. In that time, Greg completed masterclasses with Richard Divall AO OBE, and Stephen Williams. Since then, Greg has conducted most bands in the Australian Defence Force, and continues to be engaged as a guest conductor or clinician on a frequent basis. ​ Currently, Greg is employed as the Officer Commanding/Music Director of the Australian Army Band Kapooka. Other key military appointments include Officer Commanding/Senior Instructor at the Defence Force School of Music, and 2IC/Music Director of the Australian Army Band Adelaide. In the community, Greg enjoyed a successful tenure as Music Director of Australia’s premier gay and lesbian community concert band - the Melbourne Rainbow Band. ​ His experiences thus far as a conductor enable him to work with a wide range of symphonic wind, brass band and orchestral ensembles. This spectrum includes professional outfits all the way to talented community groups with musicians of varying ages and abilities. As such, recent conducting highlights have included appearances with the Royal Australian Air Force Band, the Berlin Sinfonietta, the Adelaide Wind Orchestra, the London Serenata, and the Military Band of Upper Austria. ​ As a competitor, Greg was successful in advancing to the 2nd Stage of the Warsaw Wind Ensemble Conducting Competition (2021), and the 2nd Round of the Premio Frederick Fennell (2020), but was unable to participate due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. ​ Greg's commitment to life-long learning has seen him develop his orchestral and wind band conducting skills throughout Australia, Austria, England, Germany and the United States; and with organisations such as The Juilliard School, The United States Army Band
