Michael Repper

Member Bio Mr. Repper is the Music Director of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, Northern Neck Orchestra of Virginia, and the Principal Conductor of Sinfonía por el Perú, the elite youth orchestras and choruses representing one of South America's most versatile social impact music programs. Recognizing his success at these ensembles, and his growing profile as a guest conductor all over the world, Mr. Repper was awarded a Solti Foundation US Career Assistance Award in 2020, 2021, and 2022. His album with the New York Youth Symphony, which features debut recordings of works by Florence Price, Jessie Montgomery, and Valerie Coleman, achieved widespread critical acclaim, and reached #1 on the Billboard Chart. Mr. Repper has collaborated on large-scale productions of symphonic and theatrical works with the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Ravinia Festival, Peabody Institute of Music, and the New School of Music, among others. An avid pianist, he regularly performs as a soloist alongside his orchestras and choruses, and as an orchestral player as well. Most recently, he played in the Chicago Symphony for their performances of Bernstein’s Mass, which was broadcast on PBS Great Performances. ​ ​Alongside the standard repertoire, Mr. Repper is especially invested in programming new music and showcasing fresh talent. His ensembles have performed dozens of world premieres and pursued innovative commissions, as well as a variety of Carnegie Hall premieres from established and emerging composers. Mr. Repper was the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Conducting Fellow for two seasons, and he served as the BSO's New Music Consultant. A trusted ear, Mr. Repper is asked to assist and cover at orchestras nationwide, including the St. Louis Symphony, and for Naxos recordings with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. His experience with choruses has been recognized with significant positions, including his tenure as the Music Director at the Baltimore Basilica, the first Catholic Cathedral in the United States. Mr. Joseph Rescigno

Member Bio Joseph Rescigno (born October 8, 1945) is an American conductor best known for his work in opera in North America and Europe. He served as Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor of the Florentine Opera Company of Milwaukee, WI for 38 seasons beginning in 1981. He also served as Artistic Director of l'Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, in Quebec, Canada, for four seasons. His commitment to young musicians and singers returns him each year to La Musica Lirica, a summer program for singers in Northern Italy, where he has been Music Director since 2005. He has mentored Solti Foundation U.S. Award recipients as part of the Foundation's residency project (newly expanded to opera) since the 2014–2015 season, first at the Florentine and later elsewhere. In addition, he serves on the advisory committee of the Olga Forrai Foundation, which supports the training, education, and career development of singers and conductors. Maestro Rescigno is also the author of the forthcoming CONDUCTING OPERA: WHERE THEATER MEETS MUSIC (University of North Texas Press, spring 2020).

Lauren Reynolds

Member Bio Lauren Reynolds is associate​ professor of music and director of concert bands at the University of Delaware School of Music, where she serves as conductor of the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and wind literature. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Master of Music in Conducting from the University of Delaware, and her Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting, cognate in Flute Performance, from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Rodney Winther. She is the founder and music director of the Delaware Youth Wind Ensemble, a year-round honor ensemble comprised of fine high school musicians from the greater Delaware region. Dr. Reynolds has conducted ensembles from the middle school through professional levels, and has served as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the United States. She was previously the music director of the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble, and also served for several years as the teacher for the United States Coast Guard Band conductor leadership program. An avid conductor of wind chamber music, her doctoral document examines the larger wind chamber works of Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. Dr. Reynolds is active as a presenter and clinician, and currently serves as president of the Eastern Division of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). She resides in Maryland with her husband, a professional bassoonist, and her two young children.

Member Bio Seung Eun Rhee, a conductor, a musicologist and an historian was born in Seoul, South Korea. Before she entered music world, she studied chinese history at the university and worked for National Museum of Korea as an historic librarian and university. Even though she was not in music world, she was studying piano from the age of 5. When she was working for National Museum, she had a chance to attend a rehearsal by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, it inspired her to study classical music, especially orchestral conducting. First, she studied Theory of Music in the Seoul National University which is the best one in South Korea. After that, she studied Orchestral Conducting in University of Music named by F. Chopin in Warsaw, Poland and Rimsky-Korsakov States Conservatory in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During her studying in Saint Petersburg, she organized chamber orchestras of students and held several concerts. Also she attended many master classes and competitions in Europe by Master Colin Metters, Vassily Sinaisky, Lior Shambadal, Konstantinos Diminakis, Jorma Panula, Jin Wang, Victoria Zhadko, Luis Clemente and Competition Ionel Perlea International Conducting Competition, Erich Bergel International Conducting Competition, etc. Currently, she works for Gwangju Civic Philharmonic Orchestra as a residence conductor in South Korea. Also she organized chamber orchestra ASOK and co-founded conducting masterclass for youth, “Music Mind Leadership Development”. Dr. John Ricarte

Member Bio John Ricarte has blended his unique experiences to allow him to create a successful career as a Teacher, Orchestra Director, Clinician and Lecturer. Born in Lisbon, Portugal Dr. Ricarte came to the United States at the age of 19 to pursue his musical career. His first stop was at Otterbein College (now University) in Ohio where he received a Bachelors of Art with a double major in Music and Speech Communication. From there he went to Michigan State University where he received a Masters of Art in Orchestral Conducting. He concluded his studies at the University of South Carolina, receiving a doctorate in Musical Arts in Orchestral conducting. Dr. Ricarte begins his 24th year teaching orchestra at the Cypress-Falls High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Houston, Texas. Under his direction the orchestras have consistently achieved sweepstakes at UIL competitions. His students have also received numerous awards including membership in All-State organizations. Dr. Ricarte is the founder and Music Director of Grace Symphony Orchestra, served as conductor of The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra for ten years, and recently stepped down from the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra where he held the position of Music Director for fourteen years. Dr. Ricarte’s experience includes working with a diverse number of groups from youth to adult, orchestra and ballet, to opera, wind, and choral. He traveled to Romania and conducted the Satu-Mare State Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Ricarte is a frequent adjudicator at competitions around the state and has presented at TMEA, TODA and workshops in various school districts. He recently joined Hal Leonard as a clinician. In his free time Dr. Ricarte enjoys running, reading, cooking and traveling. Dr. Ricarte is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Dr. Ricarte lives in Houston with his wife, a native Houstonian and has a 23 year daughter who lives in Dallas, Texas. As a family they love to travel all across the world with frequent stops in Portugal.

Member Bio GRAMMY award-winning conductor Lucas Richman has served as Music Director for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra since 2010 and held the position as Music Director for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra from 2003-2015. Over the course of nearly four decades on the podium, he has garnered an international reputation for his graceful musical leadership in a diverse field of media. In concert halls, orchestral pits and recording studios around the world, Richman earns rave reviews for his artful collaborations with artists in both the classical and commercial music arenas. He has appeared as guest conductor with numerous orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Pops, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the SWR Radio Orchestra of Kaiserslautern, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the Zagreb Philharmonic. Recent guest conducting highlights include programs with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Orlando Philharmonic and the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem. His numerous collaborations with film composers as their conductor has yielded recorded scores for such films as the Academy Award-nominated The Village (with violinist, Hilary Hahn), As Good As It Gets, Face/Off, Se7en, Breakdown, The Manchurian Candidate, White Noise and the recent Marvel Universe release, Madame Web; in 2010, John Williams invited him to lead the three-month national summer tour of Star Wars in Concert. Dr. Janine Riveire

Member Bio A not-quite-native Texan, Janine Riveire began playing contrabass at age 11. During high school she was chosen to perform with the Texas All-State Orchestra for three years; she earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of North Texas in 1983, where she received the Symphony Orchestra Scholarship. After moving to California in 1987, Dr. Riveire earned her M.A. in music with honors at California State University, Northridge. She completed her D.M.A. at the University of Southern California in 1997, with a specialty in music education. At Northridge she was named outstanding music graduate in 1992. In her 26 years of teaching she has taught in both public and private K-12 schools, as well as at the college level. Dr. Riveire is a specialist in strings education (ages 8-88), but has also taught general music (music fundamentals) and music history and has conducted both vocal and instrumental ensembles. Dr. Riveire is a tenured Professor in music at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, leading the music education program and acting as liaison to the teacher credentialing program there. A long-time member of the American String Teachers Association, Dr. Riveire has served as secretary and president of the Los Angeles section as well as the general board. Trained in Rolland’s methodology, she has also studied the pedagogical approach of Kato Havas and connected string movement study to the work in theater and dance by Rudolph Laban. Her research explores the development of bodily understanding of rhythm and movement and how to defeat that famous stereotype that string players can’t count their way out of a paper bag. As a contrabassist she enjoys playing with community orchestras, including West Hollywood Orchestra, Burbank Symphony and the Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra. Her recent sabbatical study with Bert Turetzky yielded an enthusiasm for music for the unaccompanied bass, particularly for talking bassist. She cites her musical influences as being Gary Karr, Bert Turetzky, Kato Havas, and Ella Fitzgerald. As part of her work at Santa Monica College and USC, Dr. Riveire developed a textbook for mixed beginning- and intermediate-level string classes, which she calls A Common Core. The book was used for 10 semesters at Santa Monica. Dr Riveire is a frequent presenter at California Music Educators conferences, and has presented twice before at ASTA national conferences.

Member Bio American conductor Gregory Robbins enjoys a diverse career as a performer, educator, bassist, and arts advocate. He has held positions as Associate Conductor of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony (2014-16), Music Director of the Delphi Chamber Orchestra (2011-2018), and Director of the Young Artists Philharmonic (2013-2019), a regional Youth Orchestra based in Greenwich, CT. In the Fall of 2019 he will begin an appointment as Conductor of the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra in southern California. As a guest conductor, he has made recent appearances with the Redlands Symphony, Norwalk Youth Symphony, Yonkers Philharmonic, Pazardjik Symphony (Bulgaria) and Symphony by the Sea. A strong advocate for music education, Robbins has extensive experience working with a variety of Youth, Secondary, and Collegiate ensembles. He has made conducting debuts at Yale School of Music, NYU, and lectured at Mannes College: The New School for Music. During the summer of 2015 he began an appointment to the conducting staff of the New York State Summer School for the Arts, in a program presented in conjunction with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He was formerly the education director for the Geneva Music Festival.
